Newcastle Airport is sited in Newcastle upon Tyne, about 11 km northwest of the city centre. In 2006 it was the 10th busiest airport in the UK.
Newcastle Airport has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome License that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction.
Though in Newcastle, the airport is actually owned by seven local authorities and Copenhagen Airport. The seven local authorities are: Durham County Council, North Tyneside MBC, Northumberland County Council, South Tyneside MBC Gateshead MBC, City of Newcastle, and City of Sunderland.ort.
