Liverpool John Lennon Airport is an airport serving the English city of Liverpool and area of Merseyside. Formerly known as Speke Airport (and RAF Speke), the airport is sited next to the estuary of the River Mersey, 12 km Southeast of Liverpool’s city centre.
Recently it has been one of Europe's fastest growing airports by increasing its passenger numbers from 874,000 in 1998 to 5.46 million in 2007. Also, 500,000 passengers were handled in one month, for the first time, during May 2007.
Liverpool Airport has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome License, which allows flights for the public transport of passengers and for flying instruction.
