Apart from services to the Scottish mainland and Shetland, Kirkwall Airport is the base for services provided by Loganair.
The small island airstrips are not managed by H.I.A.L. but maintained by the Orkney Islands Council.
Other airport carriers include the Fisheries Protection, charters and Northern Lighthouse Board helicopters. Services to the islands are, amongst others, the Westray to Papa Westray route - with a flying time of less than two minutes, it is the shortest scheduled air service in the world!
